How Coated & Specialty Paper Making Works
The coated and specialty paper making process transforms raw pulp into high-strength paper through five key stages. Understanding this process helps you choose the right machine configuration.
1. Stock Preparation
Pulp fibers are mixed with water and refined to develop strength. Additives and sizing agents are added for paper quality.
2. Forming Section
Pulp slurry is sprayed onto the fourdrinier wire through the headbox. Water drains as fibers bond into a continuous web.
3. Press Section
Press rolls squeeze out remaining water through press felts. Paper strength develops as fibers are compressed together.
4. Dryer Section
Paper passes over steam-heated dryer cylinders. Moisture drops from 55% to 6%. Dryer fabrics hold paper against cylinder surface.
5. Reeling and Finishing
Finished paper is wound onto the pope reel into jumbo rolls. Calendering smooths the surface. Slitting cuts to customer width.
